Changemakers 2023

Main content start

What does it mean to create change? How can you be a leader in your community?

Changemakers 2023 took place on Tuesday, April 11 and featured Stanford alumni Bacardi Jackson ‘92, Stefanie Tsosie ‘09 and Angel Fabian ‘99.

The Changemakers series brings together people that are truly dedicated to serving their communities and enacting change for so many people, proving that change can happen at any moment, in so many ways. This year’s Changemakers explored many topics, one being becoming politicized both on and off campus as a Stanford student, which for the Changemakers lead to becoming passionate in working with historically marginalized communities or even the communities they are a part of.

Before Changemakers started the day off, this year the Centers for Equity, Community, and Leadership held a Community Dinner, where students across campus could gather with students and community members and share space. We wanted to create community and a chance to interact with the Changemakers in a more relaxed environment, since many of the students that engage with ECL are passionate in topics and careers featured in this series. Once the event started, we had a warm welcome from Faith Kazmi, the current Interim Assistant Vice Provost for Inclusion & Community and Executive Director of the Centers for Equity, Community, and Leadership, and also proudly the Director of the Women's Community Center.

Changemakers had the privilege of welcoming the student performer Alexandra Huynh ‘25, the 2021 National Youth Poet Laureate, to the stage. Her poetry was beautiful, impactful, and honest, a much needed framework for the event.

The Changemakers series is generously funded by The Yvette Lee Bowser '87 Fund.

Changemakers Coordinators

The Centers for Equity, Community, and Leadership professional staff was thankful to have three amazing student staff be a part of Changemakers this year. From crafting thoughtful questions and leading the panel discussion to creating engaging social media and marketing to providing a bold and unique graphic design and artistic direction, this year's student staff was vital to the quilt of many pieces and parts necessary to complete Changemakers. Below is our dedicated student staff, our Changemakers Coordinators.

  • Changemakers Coordinator & Black Community Services Center Staff
  • Changemakers Coordinator & First Generation and/or Low-Income Student Success Center Staff
