Changemakers 2022
Does the number of likes/views on social media determine who is worthy to be called a Changemaker?
Changemakers 2022 took place on Monday, April 25 and featured Stanford alumni Michael Tubbs ‘12, Gina McGuire ‘17 and Nicole Sandoval ‘04.
The inaugural event focused on Servant Leadership from the teachings of Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and established the intent of this series, which is to challenge audiences to think critically about how they define social change and to interrogate their own notions around the scale and scope of change. Jan Barker-Alexander, who was the Assistant Vice Provost for Inclusion and Community and the Executive Director of the Centers for Equity, Community, and Leadership during this time, was the host and moderator of the panel. We welcomed Lerone A. Martin, Associate Professor of Religious Studies and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Centennial Chair and Director of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University as a guest speaker.
Changemakers also had the privilege of welcoming the student performer Maryam Khalil '23 to the stage. Her poetry performance gave a beautiful and important perspective to the event.
The Changemakers series is generously funded by The Yvette Lee Bowser '87 Fund.
